Where We Are

The Troqueer Landward Community Council represents people living in an area to the west of Dumfries. The area, which is bounded by the River Nith, reaches as far south as Airds Point and includes the communities of Cargenbridge and Islesteps.

What The Council Does

The Council is a non-political forum for discussion of matters of importance to the community, ranging from planning proposals to traffic calming and schemes which may enhance local amenities and services. The Dumfries and Galloway Council website provides fuller information concerning community councils, elections and the rules which govern the activity of the Council.

Meeting Times

The Council meets at 7.30 p.m. usually on the first Wednesday of each month. We have been meeting in Cargenbridge Community Centre, but this will shortly be demolished (April 2009). Look at the "Next Meeting" page for up to date information. (Next meeting and agenda.)

Attending Our Meetings

Anyone is welcome to attend and speak at our meetings, though only members of the Council are entitled to vote. If you prefer not to attend, but would like to make comments or raise any matters for discussion by the Council, it would be helpful if you used our contact email address, so that our Secretary can relay your thoughts to the meeting or include an item on the agenda, if appropriate.

Community Councillors

There are thirteen places on the Troqueer Landward Community Council. These members may be elected or coopted. In addition, those Dumfries and Galloway Councillors whose Wards intersect with the Council area may attend as non-voting participants of the proceedings.

A View From The Bench

This bench was provided by the Community Council to mark Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. Situated in the lovely countryside of Troqueer, the bench affords walkers a place to rest and a marvellous vantage point from which to survey the scenery.
